Create and Cooperate for a Change
Start date: Aug 1, 2013,
The Youth Exchange “Create and Cooperate for a Change!” will be organized for 40 young people from Europe and EECA countries. The exchange will bring awareness about stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination and will focus in different types of discrimination existing in the participant countries. Youth grow up in societies where stereotypes about other cultures and minorities arise constantly in many different spheres of their life: family and friends, media, informal discussions and even educational centres. Sometimes these stereotypes can be just positive. But usually stereotypes become negative prejudices leading to discriminative attitudes and actions. As youth work proved in several occasions and many studies confirmed, the best practice to break down these negative stereotypes is to bring together youth from different regions in order to work together and learn from real experience about other cultures, behaviours and backgrounds. This way, young people realize about shared values and the possibility to become friends with those who have stereotyped for so long, changing their mindset about the issue. The Youth Exchange will offer this space in a safe environment, with roleplays, theatre methods, discussions and inputs about the topic and the creation of a common working space to develop a website and fill it with creative contents.Participants will create a website that will include art representations created by themselves during the YE and will be linked to all the partner websites and communication channels. The Youth Exchange is based on a non-formal and a trainee centred approach putting the needs and abilities of the participants into the centre of the activity. A broad range of educational means will be applied, from role-plays, workshops, to short interactive exercises and trainee-led sessions. The Georgian youth organisation YFW will host the Youth Exchange in Signagi (Georgia). Its dates are October 29th until November 8th 2013.
