Countries bordering the Baltic Sea in a pan-European change - welfare models, landscape and environmental issues
Through our project "Countries bordering the Baltic Sea in a pan-European change - welfare models, landscape and environmental issues" we want to raise the students' awareness about the socio-political situation in the countries around the Baltic Sea in order to increase their knowledge about the existing systems in different regions of Europe. In this way they will also get an insight into various higher education and employment possibilities both in their own country and across Europe. We will also make them aware of the impact which our modern lifestyle has on the landscape and environment in the respective regions and more sensitive to the ways in which they use the nature around them. The project's aim is to broaden the participants' understanding of European perspectives and intercultural issues by presenting them with the common challenges we all face and the measures that need to be taken, as well as teaching them how to co-operate with other nationalities and cultures in order to work out solutions. This aim will be achieved through a cross-curricular approach to problem solving. The staff and students from the participating schools will be provided with new technologies enabling them to work on the project tasks, communicate with each other on a regular basis and share information, which will improve their expertise in the area. The schools will also involve other local and/or regional institutions and organisations to assist students in their activities. Representatives of local education and government authorities will be invited to support the project and the local media will be informed about and invited to report on the project in order to make the local community aware of the subject matter which will be dealt with.
