FINISHED
The IES Alhama is a Secondary and post-16 Education school, with 477 students currently on roll. There are bilingual sections for both French and English, as well as a programme in cooperation with the Official Language School, which allows the most motivated students in foreign languages to receive a B1 and B2 qualification in English and a B1 qualification in French. Besides, the school has been and is currently involved in student exchange and immersion programmes with other countries ( France, the UK) and has taken part in Erasmus+ KA02 projects in other European countries. The attention to diversity given to students with learning difficulties is also highlighted in our educational approach, grouping them in small classes and adapting their curriculums when it is necessary. In addition, we should point out the effort made by the school to enhance the students’ autonomy and entrepreneurship, carrying out projects which will prepare them for the work environment: training with LaborESO, self-financing of the school magazine, designing and creating the set for the school play, NGOs fund-raising, participating in the Ecolympics project and in the Reading in pairs project, taking part in the Drivers project.. Of the 57 teachers at the school, 7 teachers are participating in this project. These teachers are already involved either in foreign exchanges or in the bilingual sections. The training activities planned for them are spread across four areas: 1. PROJECTS AND EXCHANGES with other European countries, 2. Use and deepening of languages in teaching, 3. Use of ICT, both in the school management dynamics and the teaching and learning process and 4. Students’ ENTREPENEURSHIP AND AUTONOMY. All of them will contribute to the academic and methodological improvement in our school and will optimise the linguistic exchanges, the techniques in teaching bilingual sections, the use of new technologies, which have proved essential in all exchanges so far, thus, enhancing the students’ autonomy and independence. All of them will be improved by the activities we are applying for: four structured courses (language enhancement, CLIL, creative methodology and projects using ICT) and three Job Shadowings. Meetings with the teachers involved in the project are carried out taking into account the actual characteristics of the school and considering the capacity on enhancing the academic and methodological areas. After analysing the needs of the High School, the selection of courses, the teachers’ profile, the benefit both in the short and long run, as well as the impact the project can have in the school and the surroundings, we consider necessary to present this project. The impact will be visible in the IES Alhama community as well as in the institutions which usually cooperate with the school like youth associations, teacher’s support centres and the local councils of the area.
