Construction English Course - Improvement of the Linguistic Skills of Polish and Portuguese Construction Managers and Engineers - Recognition of Needs and Preparation of Courses in 'Construction English Language'

Construction English Course will facilitate the use of English language and develop specialist sectoral terminology (regulations, directives, contract documents, European law) for Polish and Portuguese construction managers and employees to further enhance their competitiveness within the European labour market.Following an initial analysis of the language needs within the sector, detailed curricula and outlines for the language courses will be developed. The project will then develop the actual English language courses (intermediate and advanced levels) for use with all levels of staff within the industry, from foreman to managerial level. Additional support materials will be further developed for use by tutors and trainers.Beyond initial course development, specialist terminology will be gathered from across the industry and developed into sector-specific dictionaries in both Polish-English and Portuguese-English.All courses and materials will be output in both paper-based and electronic formats and will exist primarily in EN, with supplementary information and guidelines provided in both PT & PL.For dissemination, a dedicated website is planned to host the courses & materials and attendance at a variety of seminars and trade conferences is expected to further introduce the results of the project.Beyond initial language training, any increase in linguistic ability is expected to contribute to the ongoing workplace development of individual employees allowing individuals to further seek to increase existing personal qualification levels thus benefiting the industry overall.
