The project « Connecting Nature : Open your Heart, Breathe Europe » is coordinated by the Departement of Haute-Loire (France), in partnership with the Highschool Eminescu (Cluj Napoca – Rumania) and the Departement of Allier (France). On looking at the European Union and its Member States current events - migration crisis, terrorism, euroscepticism, economic and environmental crisis - the young people have decided to work at the european level, beyond local and national administrative borders, focusing on important and enthusiastic topics for our societies and for European Union : nature, environment protection, climate change, health and well-being.The main objectives of this project are : raising awareness among young people for sustainable development (fight against climate change, preservation of biodiversity, environments and resources, social inclusion and solidarity) and enabling these 13-to-15 year-old young people to live a concrete european experience, full of European values such as exchanges, unity and solidarity.52 teenagers aged 13 to 15 are involved in this exchange project since the preparation in january 2016. 26 French young people are representants of the Youth Councils of the Departements of Haute-Loire and Allier, and 26 Rumanian young people are involved in a bilingual french-rumanian class in the Highschool Eminescu.Five activites have been chosen by the partners :Activity 1 : Growing awareness of European Union and foreign countries Activity 2 : Discovering nature and raising awareness of climate change Activity 3 : Environmental citizenship and responsibilityActivity 4 : cultural diversity and differencesActivity 5 : collective feed-back and joint productionThese activities are set up through outdoor and cultural activities, visits, and workshops encouraging exchanges and productions. They take place each day in a different place, according to the project objectives and the participants’needs, using participative methods (shared activities, think-tanks).The expected impacts on young people concern the values and skills they will gain : autonomy, intercultural discovering, EU knowledge, active environmental responsibility, so that they are able to appropriate in a positive way the resources of the places where they live. For youth managers, the impact will be an enrichment of their learning methods, thanks to the european dimension of the project, and the use of active learning methods, both formal and non formal. In a general way, this project will raise awareness of EU among general public, and give value to young people involvment in a project. A video medium will explain the project process and its ambitions, and will show the assets of Haute-Loire and Allier. It will be a « young euro enthusiastic look » to be disseminated among institutional local partners, european and youth stakeholders, and media in order to promote natural territories, opened to « the other » and turned towards the future and the EU.
