Connect Yourself
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Apr 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project responds to a range of problems and needs identified from two different perspectives: social responsibility and youth Internet safety and effective use of the Internet – development of youth digital skills. Overall there is a poor accountability of virtual social responsibility of youth. Behind an avatar, young people feel free to experiment without being aware that what they say and do by accessing the Internet may have repercussions in real life. General need for socialization of young people in the context of development of modern technologies and social networks, has also facilitated the development of virtual threats, both socially and personally, but also professionally. Unfortunately many young people do not know ways they can protect themselves from these attacks / virtual threats, continuing to expose themselves freely on the Internet, their personal data being easily accessed by a malicious programs or malevolents. At the same time, young people need to learn how to effectively use the Internet and social media for professional development, and not least to continuously improve digital skills so necessary in most areas of work. Thus, the project aims to educate virtual dimension of young people and to promote social responsibility among them, by promoting protection measures and social, personal and professional safety on the Internet. The central activity of the project will be a youth exchange organized from December 2 to 11, 2014 in Slănic Moldova (Romania). The direct beneficiaries of the project are the 42 participants in youth exchange, 35 young people aged between 16 and 25 years and 7 group leaders, coming from seven different countries: Romania, Spain, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Turkey, Malta and Croatia. Participants are volunteers from partner organizations actively involved in youth projects, but also youth from the local community, all encountering a number of problems and having a number of needs that the project through its scheduled activities and work sessions wants to solve or to satisfy. Through this youth exchange we want as participants to assume the role of responsible European citizen, to understand the concept and the need to promote social responsibility on the Internet, to identify relevant measures in order to ensure personal, professional and social security on the Internet, which will be promoted in local communities via an electronic brochures, and through a series of visual tools that will be made by the participants during the youth exchange. Finally, we aim to develop digital skills of participants and develop their creativity. In the youth people exchage non-formal education methods will be used to harness the knowledge and skills of young participants in order to facilitate non-formal context necessary for personal, professional and social development, as well as sharing and constantly networking: Cooperative Learning and team work; Active learning methods; Creative learning methods; Individual study methods - in documenting on the situation regarding the social networks in the home country; Intercommunication methods and knowledge; Reflection and evaluation methods: Feedback, debriefing; Socio-educational animation (knowledge games, ice-breaks, energizers, treasure hunt); Simulations and role plays; Debates; Open space; Court case simulation; Intercultural learning; Public speaking; Graphical representation; Photovoice; Videovoice; Exhibition; Analysis and design of solutions; Facilitated discussions. Among the tangible results, the project includes: A brochure of the project that will contain relevant information about the concept of social responsibility on the Internet, what are cyber threats and safety protection measures against them. The brochure will be electronic and will be translated into all the languages of the participants, including English. 13 posters, 42 photos and 7 videos to promote social responsibility on the Internet and / or informing about the importance of protection and security on Internet against virtual threats. Results of the project (brochure, posters, video clips and photo album) will contribute to achieve long-term impact by multiplying the project by other organizations and to increase the overall awareness and attention regarding this problem and thus increase the number of projects to address these problems, by strengthening sustainable partnerships between partner organizations and other NGOs or institutions at national level.
