Increasingly all over Europe non-formal educational institutions (like museums, science centers, center for environmental education) gain importance in science communication. The specific fraimwork conditions of non-formal educational settings as well as cooperations between formal and non-formal educational institutions require appropriate approaches and teaching methods. Successful out-of-school science communication is continuously adapted to the changing needs of heterogenous target groups and to actual topics of social relevance. The Science Education Center NaturErlebnisPark in Graz, Austria acts in several fields of Science Education and Science Communication, mainly in the development and realization of didactic settings, educational action research, design and research of cooperations between formal and non-formal educational institutions and the training of professionals in science communication. The present project “CONFIRM”concept aims to gain an overview of actual european developments in non-formal science communication and to cooperate with european partner institutions to develop joint impulses for innovative non-formal didactical settings and organization structures. Altogether there will be 10 mobilities in the frame of international courses and conferences to strenghten the competencies of the NaturErlebnisPark staff to structure educational cooperations and to develop and evaluate non-formal educational settings. The activities were deliberately selected among various networks and roof-organizations in the field of non-formal education to reach a multi-perspectivist view of the european educational landscape. A reziprocal job-shadowing between the staff of NaturErlebnisPark and the university of Helsinki with altogether 5 persons forms the basis for an intensivation of didactic exchange and the joint development of concepts and methods for professionalization in science communication. By this way the project “CONFIRM” shall increase the quality of local and regional educational activities in NaturErlebnisPark as well as lead to collaborative steps to reflected further development of non-formal teaching and learning in science education.
