Comprehensive Language Curriculum for People Wanting to Work in the Catering and Restaurant Service Profession

The project will provide a comprehensive curriculum in EN and DE for students in the catering and restaurant service profession. The curriculum will meet the needs of food service and handling personnel and will result in highly qualified waiters and waitresses, competent to deal with customers speaking EN and DE. The project partners will develop and test a shared curriculum between their vocational schools in Germany, Hungary and Romania. The resultant curriculum will be accompanied by a course textbook, including a comprehensive food dictionary, along with a course workbook focusing on initial and follow-up exercises. The course textbook will cover subjects such as restaurant and dining room preparation, waiter-customer relations and service methods. The textbook and workbook will be available as printed material and developed into a CD-Rom. The textbook and workbook will be EN & DE and the dictionary will be in EN, DE, HU & RO. As part of the curriculum, students will practice their newly acquired language skills in local restaurants and will identify any gaps in their language knowledge. The UK project partner has a lead role to play in the project's development and will be responsible for designing the course syllabus, training the textbook and workbook writers, monitoring and evaluating the project's trial teaching year, evaluating and revising language-training materials and disseminating the end-products. Trial courses will be offered in Hungary and Romania and the German partner will also incorporate part of the course into their existing teaching curriculum. Dissemination will focus on country-specific plans.
