PROJECT
FINISHED
With a history of over 50 years, High School "Dimitrie Cantemir" Iasi has established itself as a modern school, that is dynamic and constantly surpassing itself. One of the ideals is that of the social inclusion of its alumni, a more rapid employment on the labor market being thought to be a pre-requisite to increase the prospects of a successful career. The project "IT and Linguistic Skills - guarantees of a successful employment" was proven necessary by the results of the following analysis of needs:
- The curricular program manifests a lack of internships for high school students, particularly those from theoretical mathematics and computer science or linguistic profile by using an excessive theorized knowledge versus the applied side of the knowledge.
- There is a discrepancy between the requirements of the curricula and the internationalization of European labor market. IT is the most dynamic labor market and the requirements for information are always different amongst national players. Furthermore, the curriculum remains also far behind even for Romanian labor market demands. Web design domain is very much in demand now and in the foreseeable future on the labor market and is insufficiently developed in the basic ICT curriculum.
- the absence of practical activities to prepare students from the bilingual profile for real approaches to the labor market of translation, digital literacy; direct contact with native speakers of Spanish in companies will provide the right understanding of the role and responsibilities of the translator.
The overall objective of the project ITLANG is to enhance the IT skills and language skills of our students. That should assist with their matching to the requirements of the current labor market, will bring the emphasis on performance and training, and will ensure an optimally balanced educational and vocational guidance in relation to European requirements. The specific goals are: Teaching of the skills required to design and manage dynamic, optimally, secure web sites; Expanding programming skills from the C ++ and SQL languages studied in high school to programming in new languages that are web-based as PHP, MySql databases, and other applied technologies in web; Learning and the usage of social communication skills, verbal and nonverbal, in an international socio-cultural context, including the new social media. Namely, the goal will be to get the students real exposure with IT companies or companies specializing in Translation and thus to establish professional contacts that may lead later to their work places.
The project targets students of mathematics and computer science profiles and bilingual Spanish profile. The IT training course to be organized during 22.05-05.06.2016, will be in partnership with Alfatraining Karlsruhe, Germany and will have 14 attending students. The language training course to be organized in the period 04.04-17.04.2016 will be in partnership with ESMOVIA, Valencia, Spain and will have 14 students attending. The main activities are: setting up the project team, project promotion, selection of participants, general training, and specialized training in linguistic and cultural aspects of the participants. The execution itself, the monitoring, the dissemination of the project and the evaluation of the performance will take place throughout the whole one year term of the project. It is under the responsibility of the project team lead.
The outcomes from the activities developed in the project will be: the newly to be created site of Summer School, an improved website of our school, whose administration will change from a managing a company into the responsibility of the group of students attending the project, the guide brochure, that is the most tangible outcome, "Rules of Practice for the Profession of Translator", that will be distributed along with the school’s magazine. The attending students will become more creative by sharing their exposure to the European values, by learning new attitudes, and behaviors. That should increase their adaptability to a changing society in order to meet the challenges of the contemporary world with increased chances of integration on the European labor market. In addition, the impact of the project will be manifested on our institution, by increasing its prestige in the local educational environment by adding the European dimension to its values of high school. Secondly, it will reflect upon the local community, by returning amongst its alumni 28 young citizens immersed in European – grade learning experience. The project will generate long-term benefits. Among them: opening the behaviors toward accepting lifelong learning, the results of the project have applicability in other local and regional contexts. Overall, the success of this project will assist in designing of better educational strategies at the level of institution-based training regarding the needs of both students and teachers.
