PROJECT
FINISHED
Young people in Petrinja are mostly seen as the main causes of problems in the city and most often associated with vandalism, violence, unemployment, abuse of psychoactive substances. By the lack of entertaiment and cultural facilities as well as spaces for young people they become the main „beneficiaries“ of the street. Life in post-war community is unaware of new trends in the development of society and young people are not given the opportunity to develop their values, opinions and attitudes.
Therefore, the objectives of this project were:
1. Promote values of multiculturalism, tolerance and solidarity among children and youth
2. Promoting youth activism focusing on volunteerism and youth initiatives
3. Promoting equity and inclusion in youth work
In accordance with the objectives of the project four volunteers from the Balkan area: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Kosovo were given an opportunity to participare in this project. We gave advantage to young people living in areas affected by the war, from socially vulerable groups, poor financial state and unemployed.
Adoption of values of multiculturalism, solidarity and tolerance among children volunteers conducted through workshops/playrooms that theiy designed and organized. Through play and creative work, children easily learn to respect and understand other cultures and traditions.
EVS volunteers have promoted the values of volunteerism and the Erasmus + programs in the community through workshops, media appearances, formal and informal contacts with young people and through photos and videos. They sensitized the community and especially the youth about the value of volunteering for personal and professional development of an individual, and the importance of volunteerism in community development, and provided them with information about the opportunities offered by the Erasmus +.
Volunteers designed workshops according to two groups of young people
- “Empowered youth" - with whom they create and implement activities that attempted to encourage youth activism, to provide them with specific information and work together with different cultures to take responsibility in the their life and community.
- Young people with fewer opportunities - volunteers assited in using computers, practicing/learning English and share experiences in order to enhance their self-confidence, develop values of multiculturalism and tolerance.
The biggest impact of the project can be seen in the lives of young people with which volunteers worked, motivated, empowered and encouraged them to take responsibility in the community where they live. Volunteers were involved in all activities of the Association IKS, organized various activities in the Community Centre and with this project we aimed to sensitize community members about young people as important social actors.
