“Communities development through activities of volunteers” project will provide educational support to children with fewer educational opportunities in Busua (Busua Community Library) and other surrounding villages and towns in Ahanta West District, Western region of Ghana (Yakaw, Azani, Sankor, Butre etc.) with an aim to help them to improve their knowledge and level of education and hence providing options for better life. The community education level is still one of the poorest in Westen region. 7 out of 10 youth here at Junior secondary school at Busua cannot read and write well. Classrooms are overcrowded; children and teachers have no access to educational materials. EVS volunteers will help to facilitate social inclusion workshops for excluded children in distant villages of Western region; help to form a reading club; prepare drawing and painting workshops for children. Moreover, the project will be further enhanced by environmental research – issues, attitudes, solutions - and implementation of findings, as environmental issues are becoming immense concern in Ghana. Following the research volunteers will be educating children about environmental issues; teaching them how to recycle, separate waste for effective usage and motivate them to become members of an Environmental Watchdog Club (which will be established also during this project) in their own villages; and in turn also help to prevent spread of diseases through creative ways of waste management.The EVS activities will last for 15 months all together and will include 9 volunteers from Slovenia. Furthermore, the project will also promote inclusion of disadvantaged youth, facing economical and social obstacles due to their long term unemployment. Through this project they will get an opportunity to develop their competencies and self esteem, social sensibility and a sense of global connection, solidarity, by working together with local volunteers.
