The overall aim of the project is to develop specialist language learning modules for professionals participating in project teams working in the EU. The project target group are professionals who write, administrate or participate in projects that are funded by the European Commission, with the primary focus being employees who work for NGOs or state administration bodies. The developed language training will be in EN and DE. The project will build an e-learning foundation for a 'blended learning' service geared to the communication needs of people participating in EC-funded projects. 'Blended learning', as a learner-oriented approach, will accommodate the demands placed on full-time professionals when creating appropriate learning tools. A multimedia language learning prototype will be developed, using the web and CD-Rom, and will guide the development of other learning tools. Once the learning prototype is established, learning modules will be developed in EN and DE according to criteria identified through the needs analysis part of the project. Modules will take users through the component parts of EC project development and their respective language requirements; namely: setting up a project; project meetings; project documentation and project management; and EU bodies and institutions. The learning modules will be piloted across three partner countries, after which courses will be evaluated according to their linguistic, pedagogic and technological quality criteria. A multilingual glossary will be introduced reflecting the particular requirements of each language training module and the specific language used in EC-funding proposals. The self-study nature of the project will be supported using online tutorial consultations and chat-rooms with users also participating in classroom sessions of one session per month. Partners’ wide-ranging professional contacts, together with their own websites, will play a key role in project dissemination.
