The main objective of the proposed project is the improvement of the police services in Bulgaria and Greece through a series of joint actions.The aim of the project partners is the transfer of know-how and the creation of supportive tools for the promotion of cooperation between the Greek and Bulgarian police officers.Another important objective of the project is the enhancement of public confidence in the cross border region and the development of cooperative links with local communities, which will have a positive impact on both police and society.This proposed project aims to evaluate, analyze and exploit the available new technologies for assisting the police forces to fight organized crime. Lifelong learning of police officers is a key objective of the “Effective Police” project. The creation of a permanent structure for the promotion of lifelong learning and the participation of police officers in training courses contribute significantly to the tackling of crime in the border region.An additional aim of partners is the development of propositions for the restructuring of police bodies. These Propositions will be based on scientific analysis and international best practices.Respectively, another objective of the project is the development of personal relationships between Bulgarian and Greek police officers in order to overcome past prejudices and the unwillingness to cooperate. In addition, through the proposed project the police union ‘movement’ will be strengthened. The trade unions are the main way for the improvement of police officers’ working conditions. Expected Results: The training of 420 police officers in the border region is a direct result of the proposed project. The participation of 700 people in the open to public conferences will greatly enhance the feeling of security of the local populations in the eligible area of ETC Programme. The effectiveness of police officers will be also enhanced from the operation of the supportive structure in Bulgaria and the e-learning platform. Within the project, joint proposals for the improvement of police structures will be formulated and a set of tools for the promotion of cross-border cooperation will be created.The project’s actions will ensure the harmonization of the Greek and Bulgarian police services in accordance with the European directives.The implementation of “Effective Police” project will develop meaningful ties between police and local communities through the information activities and the development of the electronic social networking.Upon completion, the project will contribute positively to the improvement of policing and the reduction of crime. In addition, an indirect result of the project will be the reduction of xenophobia and racism in local communities of the cross-border area.
