PROJECT
FINISHED
Until today on the topics: prevention of Antisemitism and Holocaust Education in the field of educational youth work no structured exchange between Turkey and Germany took place. With a sustainable and outcome orientated approach we stand up to fill this lacking in the field. This approach includes a concrete topic orientated work as well as a sustainable exchange and the development of a guidebook for the interested audience.
The cooperation is build by three non-profit organizations: Kreuzberger Initiative gegen Antisemitismus (KIgA), Toplum Gönüllüleri Vakfi (TOG) and Karakutu. These three organizations look back upon a successfull first project in the above mentioned field of topics, which builds the fundament of this cooperation. The project "Commitment without Borders" started in 2014. In this project 24 professionals from each country had been chosen and took part in a structural exchange and study trips to Berlin (November 2014) and to Istanbul (May 2015).
The project we apply for hereby is part of the follow-up project "Transnational Network against Antisemitism" which serves the establishment of a stable network for interested actors in the field from both countries.
The workshopweek (planned for October 2015) is embraced by these one-weekly studytrips to Berlin and Istanbul. In addition to this KIgA holds a weekendseminar in Istanbul (March 2015) to deepen the knowledge on the topics titled "Prevention of Antisemitism and Holocaust Education: theoretical basis and pedagogical approaches". In the meantime of these three events the exchange between the participants will be ensured throughout four topic orientated online seminars and an openly shaped digital discussion space. All parts of this project - except the workshop week hereby applied for- are fully financed by Erasmus+ and the International Holocaust Remembrance Agency (IHRA).
The hereby applied workshopweek is a intense working phase for itself. The participants from Turkey and Germany will get together in a education center in Turkey. They will work on specific topics and challenges of the thematical field.
The crucial question is: which role takes the remembrance of and the learning out of the Holocaust concerning the shared values of European identity nower days and in future. This will be done be especially considering the relations between Germany, being a member of the European Union and Turkey as a applicant to a membership in the European Union. This happens wiht a special focus on the impact of transnationalization of the remembrance if the Holocaust and the prevention of Antisemitism.
Out of this exchange a collection of background information concerning specific opportunities and challenges will be developed, which take both country contexts and the level of international cooperation into consideration.
The articles will be developed by the participants and published in an multilingual guidebook (English, Turkish, German). Above this a module for professionals in educational youth work will be developed. The framing and the focal topics of this module will be determined by the participants during the project. A special focus will be put on the heterogenity of societies and teaching- and learninggroups.
The development of both products, guidebook and module, will be supported by the yearlong expertise of the partner organizations, the individual participants and the cooperation itself. Thanks to the ongoing process of exchange the products will be finished after the workshopweek. The collection of texts, the guidebook will be presented on conferences in Istanbul (January 2016) and in Berlin (March 2016), which will be organized by the cooperating organizations themselves.
