Collaborative Maritime Knowledge Management and Tr..
Collaborative Maritime Knowledge Management and Training System
The project will create a web-based tool for accessing information on the international maritime shipping industry. The key focus of the project will be the development of a platform, to function as an international learning/information tool for the delivery of information to users. The project will not focus upon the development of platform content. Project partners will initially conduct research with regard to recent developments in learning and awareness theories and will undertake an overview of current methods of information management, with a focus upon the latest developments in computer-based, learner-centred learning. Additional activities will include development of the platform's meta-structure for the collection and management of information and programming for the platform to achieve an internet compatible database. User manuals will be developed by the project to assist end-users in the successful management of and navigation through the eventual information platform. The platform will be piloted on seamen from which feedback will be sought by means of a questionnaire and interview phase which will inform subsequent development of the platform. Partners will establish an international working group which will be responsible for presenting the results to an international audience, to include delegates from shipping colleges, training providers, representatives of employer associations, representatives of seafarers unions and government maritime authorities. Dissemination activities will take place during each phase of the project's development and will include press releases and targeted circulars. The project's shipping partners will make use of existing professional networks to further promote the project.
