Coding and Robotics on Maths through English
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Coding and robotics have risen as basic skills for our students throughout Europe. Not being a general framework applicable for all European countries, some national, regional or from individual schools' initiatives have appeared to try and close the gap between the vision and today's starting point. This project, involving six different organisations, can be set into this last group, but adding collaboration and internationalism as basic features. As it is related with developing digital skills, this project's theme corresponds to one of the Erasmus+ priorities at European level. The project objectives have a double aspect: on the one hand improve teachers' competence in coding and robotics to allow them introduce new ways of teaching different subjects through coding and robotics; on the other hand, give the students a new and real point of view of waht they are going to find as part of their future working environment, where most of the jobs they will apply for are not invented so far. In the project will take part six organizations (five schools and an association for teacher training) with a total of 12 to 18 teachers of primary and secondary education and teacher trainers. The schools involved have from 160 to 1700 students, with a total of aprox 4300 students and more than 250 teachers as the potential target audience of the project, with the added value of vertical scaffolding as the planned activities involve primary and secondary students and teachers simultaneously. This will allow us to implement innovative methodologies (mentoring, flipped classroom, blended learning, collaboration in real time,...) that will enrich our students learning experience. The set of activities can be grouped as follows: training of teachers in coding and robotics (to be developed in webinars and live sessions to achieve a basic common profile in order to implement coding related activities in the classroom); training of students in coding and robotics (differentiating primary and secondary students as their needs are different) ending this step with the creation by the secondary students of labirinths with Maths challenges for the primary students to be checked, solved and improved by providing feedback; organising a coding contest for all the students involved in the project (with different categories for primary and secondary students) with prizes for the best contributors for each category; organising a robotics contest or all the students involved in the project (with different categories for primary and secondary students) with prizes for the best contributors for each category. The contest activities wil be held in different countries to allow the students to share experiences and to have a real feeling of community. With all these, we expect to obtain a set of results (activities, strategies, lesson plans,...) that can be implemented in a regular basis in daily teaching and learning, scalable and aplicable to different subjects and topics and easily transferable to mainstreaming. During the whole project, a collaborative webpage and a Facebook group will be used for following and results publishing purposes. These windows will give a way to open our project to the rest of the education community and will remain opened once the project ends, ensuring long term following and accessibility to the results. In addition, we're commited to maintain our partnership for innovation after the project, opening it to new partners inside and outside of our countries.
