The student- body of the 1st EPAL ELEFSINAS (VOCATIONAL SCHOOL) consists of many different nationalities, ethnic minorities and students deriving from mixed social backgrounds. This cultural diversity is conducive to the rise of racist views and violent behavior. The teachers of the 1st EPAL ELEFSINAS are seriously concerned as they often find it hard to deal with students’ emotional outbursts, so as to help them integrate to and adapt the school environment thus reducing the percentage of early school leaving. The 1st EPAL ELEFSINAS wishes to participate in the educational seminar “Coaching in education to reduce early school leaving” run by Cervantes Training whereby six teachers will receive training in managing students emotions and applying Energy Psychology and Emotional Freedom Techniques in a school environment with a view to reducing early school leaving.Following the seminar, we are planning to hold five actions in our school aiming at educating the teachers of the 1st EPAL as well the 2nd EPAL of Elefsina, eradicating racial-national discrimination and at encouraging students’ self expression, developing a network of collaboration with the aid of the Youth Consultant Service of the Secondary Education Bureau of Western Attica and as psychologists and counselors from the local hospital (Thriasio Hospital), as well as secondary education consultants from the local department of the Greek Ministry of Education. Through the realization of the training activities, we expect the teachers to develop certain skills and early detection techniques in order to discover the causes to prevent early school leaving, familiarize themselves with EFT techniques, Emotional Freedom and Psychology reversal, improve their performance, through techniques to combat stress and negative feelings, amend their relationships with their students and increase the level of cooperation with their colleagues adopting a more extroverted approach to teaching. As for the 1st EPAL ELEFSINAS, we anticipate a reduction in the number of dropouts in the forthcoming years, rendering our school more attractive to students, reducing the phenomena of misconduct in the school environment, upgrading the role of our school projecting its role in the local community making it a viable and attractive option for potential future students. Finally, as far as the students are concerned we expect them to learn to manage their emotions, collaborate with to achieve common goals, understand and accept diversity amongst their schoolmates, increase their level of interest in lessons and transform their image of the school from a place where they have to “be” to a place where they wish to “live”.During the training activity, we will proceed in the realization of dissemination activities, such as the constant publications of newsletters in our school webpage, the webpage of the Secondary Education Bureau and local press, a series of events to be held in the school, organization of a conference, construction of a page on facebook with constant updating and sharing by all staff members of our school.
