The ScientistsAcrossPortugal event will take place in the two major cities in Portugal, with the main purpose of bringing researchers to informal environments and promoting «two-way communication activities» between researchers and public in general. This event which is actually the combination of three different projects all located in the Porto-Lisbon area, respectively promoted by Inovamais, the University of Porto and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Events will be organsied in the two following locations: PORTO: (2 locations, e.g. CMIA - one of the laboratories of the Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) in Matosinhos by the beach, and the Centre of Astrophysics of the University of Porto, owing well-know infrastructures in the field of astronomy, short distanced locations. The event intends offering the public an unforgettable party gathering Portuguese general community and researchers; programme includes a mixture of activities, ranging from thematic exhibitions, tunas concerts, hands-on activities, sun and astronomical observations, games, etc bringing researchers and the public together in a didactic but enjoyable way, and highlighting the message that researchers are “ordinary” people. LISBON: (Cultural Centre of Belem, a leading cultural landmark in Lisbon) -around 2000 people (researchers and public of all ages) will be invited for an evening walk, preceded by interactive science-based activities and dialogue events with scientists, in a Festive Tent. By illustrating how scientists are interested in ‘ordinary’ social and physical activities, this will without a doubt contribute to breaking down the stereotype of scientists as lonely, anti-social individuals, as well as fostering interactions and dialogue between scientists and publics of all ages and socioeconomic groups, in a non-threatening and familiar space.
