CiudAct: Empoderamiento del Adulto / Mayor para una Ciudadanía Activa
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The departing point for this local consortium is an initiative based on a thematic network, "Growing Cities/Ciudades en Crecimiento", under the leadership of the Università delle LiberEtà (Udine, Italy) and composed of more than 20 members, which provide added value thanks to the special nature and specific purposes of the institutions that belong to the national consortium (Senior University at the Universidad de Málaga, Teacher Training Centre at Antequera, AIGU and ACP [NGO's] and Faraján City Council). On the one hand, the "Growing Cities" thematic network, that creates the general context, works collaboratively based on a four-pillar approach (namely: Healthy Cities; Heritage, Culture and Territory; Entrepreneurship; and ICT & Social Exclusion Risk), which supports social development in the cities at European level offering training and collaboration in these areas. On the other hand, the national consortium, led by the Senior University at the Universidad de Málaga, aims to focus on this general context by highlighting a more specific social aspect, based on a need to train and raise awareness among teachers of adults and seniors in order to achieve training in skills that help foster an active citizenship that shares their free time, knowledge and previous experience in social projects that help strengthen the social fabric of their cities from a variety of points of view and seeking to improve it. This project is thus aimed at training trainers, who, in connection with a wide range of perspectives (health, heritage, entrepreneurship, ICT or social exclusion), would encourage and empower their adult and senior students to face the challenge of participating in local institutions whose purpose is to make cities better by making their inhabitants better and improving their needs. Volunteering is, therefore, a very adequate instrument to achieve this, although there exists a need of some kind of training in skills with reference to a number of aspects (social, oral and digital, among others) to facilitate the fulfilment of the objectives. In order to achieve this training goal, we aim to promote mobility actions for training purposes and with various EU countries (Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovak Republic and Greece) under the following topics: raising awareness on healthy lifestyles, game-based learning, experience-based learning and cultural awareness, digital culture and cultural policy, social literacy and development of social competences and integrated social policy for health and social inclusion. Informative and training workshops will be organised after each mobility action for all partners from the national consortium. Moreover, an ending conference for all social agents and institutions and for the public at large is planned, in which the most relevant results are to be shown. By implementing the aforementioned objectives, the results and their overall impact would cover in general terms the following aspects: - Ensuring of cross-sectoral synergies thanks to a collaborative work among various types of educational and social institutions (University, teacher training centre for secondary education and adult and, NGO's and city administration). - Ensuring of international synergies, since the consortium participates in a supranational network (Growing Cities), along with many other institutions and their respective local consortiums throughout Europe. - Improvement of competences in members that are in charge of training programmes and activities in the field of adult and senior education, focusing all activities and programmes in the empowerment of an active citizenship from the point of view of contents (curriculum) and working methods (teaching organisation), all of them oriented towards skills learning. Mobility actions will improve participants' language skills, due to the fact that English will be the main language to be used. - Improvement of competences in learners (as secondary beneficiary), whose motivation to learn may increase thanks to applying what they have learnt in class and to the fact that there exists a connection with their preferences, previous knowledge and professional and vital experience to be developed within a positive and enriching social volunteering context. - Improvement of the involvement of participating institutions within their social and territorial context and improved visibility, which is now more targeted to essential aspects such as development of healthier habits, heritage conservation, intergenerationality or promoting social inclusion within all population segments. All these aspects provide benefits that happen not only immediately, but also on a long-term basis, due to an aimed snowball effect as regards other local institutions.
