"Circus for everybody and everywhere", carried out by The Serious Road Trip and Mardin Gençlik ve Kültür Dernegi is a bilateral youth exchange project involving two groups of 12 young people each, from France and Turkey.
Concentrating mainly on circus techniques, a powerful tool of non-formal education, the project will also use complimentary methods such as group games, reflection sessions and creative workshops aiming to prepare some shows between the participants to perform in Kizilteppe (Turkey).
Through these methods, the participants will directly explore the capacity of circus to foster group cohesion, develop mutual trust and create a common language among people coming from different cultural and social backgrounds. Moreover, they will reflect on the potential of using circus pedagogy on a larger scale, to contribute using circus among mentally or physically disabled people independently of ethnic or religious origins.
The participants will initiate the children of this impoverished community in Kiziltepe, compromizing the children to the practice of circus, thus helping them to develop new skills, enhance their self-esteem and better integrate in their community.
Besides promoting non-formal education techniques, fostering understanding and a sense of shared identity among young people coming from different European countries and helping them develop important skills such as responsibility,
risk-management, autonomy, creativity and mutual trust, the project also aims to fulfill another objective. By bringing together young people actives in NGO's whith the desire of discovering more circus techniques and providing them with effective tools, knowledge and motivation, it will encourage them to be multipliers of social circus initiatives in their own environments and become engaged and effective promoters of a more inclusive society.
