The issues related to subordinate problems in the field of Education (i.e lack of literacy of any kind, inefficiency in managing diversity of all forms, increasing distance between classroom and reality, contradiction between the speed of information and the consolidated syllabus of the school manuals) dictate the need to search for methods and tools which will render us more effective in our educational work.
The plan of action which our school has elaborated involves six teachers of the following subjects: I.C.T, Maths, English Language, German Language, Greek Language and the Headteacher of the school. Each and everyone’s educational needs converge as regards as the following: broadening and updating our knowledge, studying new teaching approaches, applying innovative activities within the school surroundings. Last but not least for all participants is the need for contact and communication with teachers from other countries aiming at exchanging ideas and experiences.
The selected activities are the following: 1. Information Technology and the use of new tools in Education, 2. Mathematics and innovative teaching approaches, 3. English Language and the use of computers in class, 4. German Language and Interactive Projects, 5. Intercultural Education-Human Rights, 6. History, Teachers of History and the way to Democracy.
For the materialization of our plan we have selected our associates having taken into account the following specific criteria: covering the participants’ explicitly stated needs, guarantee for continuous updating and answering questions related to the procedure of the educational activity, ensuring the communication among the participants before the beginning of the seminar. We believe that as soon as our participation is approved by signature, our co-operation will be secured. Every Institute takes over the obligation to suitably prepare the participants providing them with the possibility of initial and final evaluation as well as any educational material concerning the topic of the seminar. The Institute which provides the seminar will be responsible for supervising and materializing the project in collaboration with the person in charge of the plan of action on behalf of the school. In this way, we believe that the practical and quality dimension of every activity will be secured.
Moreover, we consider it crucial that the District Administration of Education as well as the Head Office of Secondary Education be informed so as to grant permission for the materialization of the activities and support for the effusion of the results.
Among the expected results of learning the following can be included:
Improvement of skills, updating of knowledge and methodology of teaching a foreign language with the supervising of special instructors and exchanging experiences with teachers from other countries.
Promoting the use of ipads/tablets in teaching which offers new skills in the use of new technology in Education.
The conceptual instruction in relation with the Intercultural Education and the Managing of Diversity as well as the intercultural teaching techniques. The acquisition of skills which are necessary for the materialization educational programmes focused on training for the respect for human rights.
The improvement of skills and methods of teaching maths which exceed the conventional teaching approaches, encourage students’ rethinking and create the appropriate links between the contents of maths and other learning fields.
The boosting of skills of those who teach history and the realization that they are teachers of democracy.
Since all the seminar activities are based on the pedagogical idea that students are an active, creative and responsible part of their learning procedure, the participants are given the chance to redefine their role in class.
All in all, the participants will have the possibility to renew their scientific feedback, improve their teaching methods and enrich the educational procedure with the introduction of new, parallel objectives (as part of the optional educational programs).
It is expected that school, as a whole, will be enhanced by the subsidiary activities, because no intellectual objective is self-existent as everything functions as part of a whole.
Meeting other teachers and exchanging information and experiences are expected to make collaboration easier. (KA2)
Besides, students who constitute the main target group will be benefited because, as it has been noted, they pleasantly accept every activity or “disorder” of their routine which gives them the possibility to create, take initiative and act by themselves.
