Children and youth multicultural education
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Feb 29, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is part of our annual plan of hosting international volunteers in organisations working with youth and children in Cracow. This year STRIM hosted in total 20 volunteers in 3 projects. Five volunteers from Programme Countries worked for 9 months with kids and kids with disabilities in Cracow. Aside from small obstacles that arise each year (like housing arrangements or cultural and weather shock) all volunteers were happy with their activities and the logistics of the project (one of our volunteers staid to work in his HO!). During their work volunteers took active part in daily life of the Hosting Organisations (HOs) by adding international contribution to almost each of the tasks that were organised for children. They were not only a member of the staff but also they added another, inter-cultural dimension to the activities. As each volunteer came with his own experiences, they could lead their own workshops that were different from those typically organised in the HOs. Based on previous years of hosting, HOs could also arrange some aid for volunteers who ran out of their own ideas or struggled with creativity. Aside from work in their HO, volunteers also realised a series of common meetings and workshops with all other volunteers of STRIM - a program on interculturality, which was prepared for a couple hours long theatre play and workshops for kids and then was showed in multiple HOs. We gave them space in the office, materials for workshops etc. We are content with the outcomes of the project and definitely we can say that all engaged parties, STRIM, HOs staff and volunteers learnt a lot.
