Changing with the climate
Start date: Oct 1, 2010,

There is little time left to stabilise the world's concentration of greenhouse gases without incurring irreversible changes in climate. This global impact can be minimised by local actions of mitigation and adaptation. This lifelong learning process has to start in schools as the understanding of cause and effect requires a knowledge of science based topics. The network will assess existing resources and assemble and revise these as new knowledge and impacts become available. Schools will be encouraged to use these resources to make science more interesting and relevant to everyday life. The network will assist teachers to develop the multi-disciplinary skills to translate cognitive teaching into realising actions. It will encourage and stimulate European approach to a topic with global impact. The pedagogical strategy is to empower teachers and students to reflect on the underlying causes and then to consider local solutions to reducing their carbon footprint to maintain existing biodiversity. The network will experiment and realise novel teaching and learning resources which can be adapted by other schools in and beyond Member States. The impact will be to initiate local actions by individuals and communities which should eventually lead to a more sustainable use of energy and limit the degree of climate change. The founder members comprise -- 6 principal partners from 6 Member States who will organise and resource the network activities- 36 schools that are willing to trial the network resources to enhance their science teaching and form partnerships with schools in other countries to share ideas and experiences- 21 associate partners who will support the network activities and help disseminate the network outputs. The resources will be available in 7 languages including French, English, Spanish and Italian so enabling the resources to be used by countries in both Africa and South America.
