The Adult Education Institution – Dante is a foreign language teaching institution, and has since its beginnings been focused on high quality standards. To maintain these high standards our institution needs teachers who teach according to the recent theory foreign language learning methodologies and use modern teaching methods. In order to successful on these areas of work and to fulfil our long-term plan to become a lifelong learning and professional development centre we need to develop the language, communication and intercultural competences of our staff. In accordance to our long-term plan and the wish to maintain high quality standards of teaching and the entire work of our institution, the objectives of this project are: modernization of teaching methods, development of linguistic and intercultural competences of our staff and our students, establishing connections between our language teachers and language teachers from other European countries with the aim of exchanging experiences and good practice and enhancing the quality of the teaching process, enhancing the quality and competitiveness of our institution. In order to achieve the desired objectives two of our English language teachers will as part of this project participate in an English language teacher methodology training. The English language teachers were chosen because they are young and motivated members of our staff who have shown good work. One of them is an English and Croatian language teacher and the other is a English and German language teacher. English language teachers were chosen because most of our students learn English and that way most people will benefit from the modern teaching methodology and the improved methodical, linguistic and intercultural competences of our teachers. The training that our staff members will participate in through this project is a two week English language teacher methodology training at a course accredited by the British Council or a similar body in an English speaking surrounding at an institution with a long experience and high quality standards such as the University of Oxford or Cambridge. After the return from the mobility an outside associate will test their development. The English language teacher will design new curricula according to recent theories of English language teaching and with the aim of enhancing the quality of the teaching process. All of this will improve the quality and competitiveness of our institution. The dissemination of this project within our institution will be carried out through workshops held by the participants of the projects for all the other teaching staff members with the aim of sharing the experience of taking part in the project and spreading the knowledge and skills acquired at the courses. That way all the staff members will benefit from the project, as well as all our students. A link about this project will be put up on our institutions website and all important information about the news, activities and participants of this project will regularly be uploaded there. The project will also be disseminated and presented on andragogy conferences, workshops and professional meetings that our institution takes part in.
