Centre on Migrants' Rights in the Mediterranean

In a historical context characterised by the progressive intensification of migratory phenomena within Europe, the promotion of an effective dialogue between cultures and different values systems constitutes an irreversible necessity. Operationally, this translates into the need to study and analyse the complex human rights and assets of migrants, even if not yet European citizens, on the base of a global and intercultural dialogue, open to civil society and in line with the priorities and objectives laid down by the EU, i.e. Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council, COM(2011)751of 15.11.2011, establishing the Asylum and Migration Fund. In the knowledge and in conformity with policies from time taken by the European institutions in support of integration process, the University “L’Orientale” of Naples, through the sharing of appropriate synergies and skills multi-disciplinary, to create a Centre of excellence JM, i.e. a permanent structure of study, research and debates between academics excellences and international experts, open to the civil society and migrant communities, but also institutional actors, associations of the third sector.This actors are all engaged in the protection of migrants and of their rights of personal and social self-affirmation.The Centre, therefore, aims at bringing people together (migrants - and all stakeholders) and to spread knowledge and awareness of juridical tools they can access, in order to respect the principles of substantive equality, dignity of the person, social and territorial cohesion, i.e. the general principle of effectiveness of the EU legislation, with a view to a gradual but continuous and effective implementation of the process of European integration.
