Celebrating "Samhain" (Halloween) in Ballymun
Start date: Jul 30, 2014, End date: Dec 29, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Context: This project will bring together two youth projects from Ireland and Belgium for a youth exchange between 27th October and 2nd November 2014. This application follows the application made by the Belgian group for the last deadline in March'14 for the 1st youth exchange taking place in Bruxelles. Main aim of the project: The main aim of the project is to expose young people with fewer opportunities to European mobility, Intercultural learning and participation in democratic life in Europe. Both youth groups grew up in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, and are exposed to similar structural problems (housing, unemployment education,...). By supporting these young adults to organise their own activities for each other , we aim to broaden their competences, their self awareness, their insight in the challenges they might face, and to strenghthen their strategies to cope with and address them. Objectives of the project: - To offer young people from both organisations an opportunity to re-connect, exchange and learn from each other, with the benefit of having participated in a first youth exchange in Belgium in the Summer. - To broaden their horizons by engaging in a cultural project with another group of young people with fewer opportunities from another country. - To learn from the mobility opportunity offered by the youth exchange and to open up other opportunities offered by the Erasmus + programme to young people with fewer opportunities. - To promote an understanding of the cultural diversity between both countries by participating in an artistic programme as part of the seasonal festival of Samhain. Number and profile of participants: 12 young people each country (Ireland and Belgium) aged 18-21 with fewer opportunities will participate in this youth exchange. The methodology used will be non-formal and will include: - Group preparation in each country in advance of the exchange - Orientation, incl. a cultural visit of Dublin and a tour of Ballymun - Group activities including team building and outdoor pursuits - Artistic activities in a Community setting in preparation for the Halloween festival - Group discussions on the situation of young people in both countries - Workshops on film editing Results and impact: This youth exchange will have a huge impact on all participants as well as the organisations involved as this will be the first time they take part in a youth exchange. As a result of the exchange, young people will have developed many competences enabling them to: - Engage in other European activities, including EVS - Empower other young people from both organisations to participate in Erasmus + programmes - Have a better understanding of what it means to be European Potential longer terms benefits: As a result of this project, we are hoping to continue our partnership through further youth exchanges or EVS placement and engage with JES Stadslabo on a more strategic level on our youth work practices.
