PROJECT
FINISHED
The Support Service of the University of Pécs – located in the main building of the campus – is planning its third EVS hosting project between September 2015 and June 2016.
Our third volunteer comes from Armenia. She has been involved in training and youth exhange by the Youth In Action Program and she wants to gain new expereiences as a volunteer in an unknown country.
By the EVS project we wish to broaden our services and contribute to our disabled students’ development in the field of the intercultural acquisition and language competences.
The volunteer will take part in the everyday life of our service. In cooperation with our colleagues, she will contribute to the success of the students’ studies. The volunteer will help in the transportation and accompanying of the students, and she will also take part in shopping for/with them, studying together, organising their leasure time and hosting a language club as well as tutoring. She will contribute to the integration of the students into university life; therefore “normal” students will also get acquainted with the everyday life of the students with disability. By her presence, we can get a taste of Armenien life.
The volunteer will learn about disabilities and the methods of supporting disabled people. She will gain more knowledge in the field from other organisations with which we are contacted.
There are some students whose world may only be opened up by the arriving volunteer and who may only able to have intercultural experiences through her. But we hope that some of them, encouraged by the example of the volunteer, will grab the possibilities offered by student and youth mobility programmes.
As a long term benefit, both the volunteer and the students supported by our service will have better chances at the labour market by the experience gained and passed on, and by competences gained through communication in a foreign language.
