"Bursa meets Hesse" - Partnerkontaktseminar zwischen haupt- und ehrenamtlichen Fachkräften und Multiplikator/innen von Jugendverbänden und Jugendzentren aus Bursa und Hessen
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background and context of the project: The long-term goal of this professionals exchange was the establishment of lasting partnerships between institutions and organizations of youth work in Hesse and Bursa and the initiation of youth exchanges between the two regions. The establishment and expansion of international youth work is an important objective of the partnership agreement between the two regions. The project builds on a first delegation of the Hessian Youth Council to Bursa in October, 2013, where contacts with governmental and voluntary organizations youth work and insight into the Turkish youth (services) policy could be won. Goals: In the now organized exchange project between professionals and multipliers of different youth centers and youth organizations from Bursa and Hessen two short-term goals were the focus: on the one hand contact and networking with the Hessian youth associations and other interested (municipal) institutions of youth work in Hessen and and the other hand, mediation of basic knowledge about the structures and the wide range of youth work in Hessen. Also, the Hessian participants should learn more about the local structures and challenges of youth work in Bursa by direct exchange with the participants from Bursa. Thus, both the Hessian as well as the Turkish participants had the opportunity of professional development ? in the field of intercultural competences and in terms of knowledge of the structures of youth work in the respective partner region. Number and profile of participants: A total of 26 people took part in the exchange of specialists: 14 Turkish participants, 1 Turkish leader, 7 German participants, 3 German leaders and 1 interpreter. Turkish participants represented mainly governmental youth centers in Bursa as well as a City Council in a district of the city of Bursa. Furthermore, there were two Turkish youth organizations represented by volunteer workers. The Hessian participants were representatives of youth organizations and youth centers, a few of them are also members of the board of the Hessian Youth Council. The age structure was very mixed, about half of the participants were in young adulthood, including a particularly large number of volunteers. Activities: The program covered a lot of different points. These included visits to various youth associations and institutions of youth work (including DLRG-Youth, Scouts, BDKJ, Youth Council of the City of Wiesbaden, municipal youth center, adventure playground) in Hesse to each different thematic priorities (for example cooperation with school, youth self-organization and peer education, extra-scholar youth education in youth associations, municipal youth work, experiential learning, youth policy and youth participation at the state as well as one the municipal level). Referring to all these visits, there has always been a detailed exchange on the respective structure, the particular activities and the role in society of the organization or institution. These impressions from practice were embedded in block seminars, which served basic knowledge about the German youth welfare system, in particular the system of youth associations, and informed about the youth policy structures in Germany. In these very compact seminars an important attention was paid to also consider the Turkish side, facing the question: What are the differences between the two systems, and which are the challenges arising from it, concerning the implementation of youth exchange projects and youth exchanges? In addition, there were meetings with several political representatives of the state of Hesse, who welcomed our efforts for a greater flow of both regions. A bilingual guided conference on international youth work and an open intercultural evening rounded off the program and ensured that in addition to the participants many other professionals of youth work in Hessen and politicians and other interested parties were involved. Results, reaching effects: The partners contact seminar was very successful. A lot of contacts between institutions and organizations of youth work from both regions could be produced, which are still alive. Concrete project ideas were developed. Since then, some of the professionals who have met at that time, stayed in continuous dialogue with each other and have planned their own youth exchange projects. Referring to these projects and project ideas, we continue to provide technical assistance and support. In conclusion, it was very important to exchange views on the respective backgrounds and conditions of the potential partners in the other region. By this exchange, a better mutual understanding could be created on both sides.
