The EVS project "Building Bridges" involves 2 volunteers with fewer opportunities from the Netherlands and is the result of a new partnership between Stichting UcDean (the Netherlands) and two Greek hosting organizations, providing support and leisure time opportunities to disabled people of different ages. The origins of this project lie in the commitment of all involved organizations to provide vulnerable groups, both in the sending country and in the hosting country, an opportunity for intercultural dialogue, personal growth and social inclusion. The particular aims of this project are: 1) Providing Dutch young people with fewer opportunities a chance at gaining labour market relevant competences, improving their intercultural communication skills and self-confidence by immersing them in an international learning environment; 2) Supporting marginalized people with disabilities in Greece by offering leisure time activities and supporting their participation in society. This project not only supports an intercultural dialogue between volunteers and local communities in the hosting countries, but also builds a partnership between the various involved organizations. Mutual learning through the exchange of best practices in project management, activity design and volunteer guidance is an integral part of the project design, including web-based communication tools for disemmination of project results and regular communication between project staff.Project activities will take place in two venues in Greece, one rural and one urban in 2016 and 2017. In addition, online activities between the partners are envisaged for project management and peer learning. Project activities include organising workshops in the domains of sports, arts, culture, creative therapy and language training, provision of care and leisure activities for vulnerable groups and organizational support for NGO's. In doing so, this project offers not only immediate support to vulnerable communities in the partner countries, but also contributes to capacity building of all involved partners.
