Primary special school in Szczytno is a school for pupils with special needs.Our students demonstrate a broad range of learning, cognitive, communication, physical, sensory, and social/emotional differences that necessitate adaptations, modified or alternative activities or approaches to teaching. A key aspect of our work is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment. The project was planned for 1 year and it was realized as a part of action 1.“Staff’s mobility” in subject of school education. It has took aim at raising the quality of education and competence of the staff of our school by participation in professional training for teachers – observing the work of a foreign partner school in the area of school education (job shadowing). A 6, multispecialty group of teachers attended in the 3-day action program of job shadowing. For the presentation and gaining new experiences there were chosen teachers and therapists (experts in working with students with autism and AAC, dogo- and hippotherapist) English teacher, librarian, pedagogue and headteacher. Course of the project activities: -Establishing a cooperation with Greek Special Primary School for students with autism EIDIKO DIMOTIKO IRAKLEIOU ATTIKI as part of eTwinning program. -Valentine’s Day – exchanging cards between schools (using AAC – pcs, Makaton). -Visit of Greek teachers from Special Primary School for students with autism in Primary School No 5 in Szczytno. Meeting with students and teachers. Familiarize with the structure and organization of the school. Participation in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day in our school. Taking part in training “Autism introduces senses confusion”, meeting with parents. Observing chosen methods in our school: augmentative and alternative methods of communication AAC, sensory integration, Hippo-, Dogotherapy, Tomatis, EEG biofeedback, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. Observation of lessons in kindergarten and classes for students with autism and intellectual disability in the mild and moderate. Observation of psychologist and school counselor work. A visit to The District Authority Office in Szczytno - to discuss problems relating to the education and care of disabled people in both countries. Understanding the culture, traditions, folklore, the region and the history of the institution. -Publication information about visit Greek teachers in Szczytno on the school’s website. -Publication information about visit Greek special teachers in Szczytno on The Disctict Authority Office’s website. -Celebration of international eTwinning’s 10th birthday – happening, spread on Facebook and publication above information in local press. -Mobility of teachers in Greece. -Articles about World Autism Awareness Day and visit Greek teachers in Szczytno, then about our visit in Greece in: local press,board bulletin for students,information on our school’s website and Facebook. -Teachers' council about the eTwinning projects and presentation of the project. -Presentation of the project for parents. -Start classes at the swimming pool. -Meeting with the parents to present the effects of classes in the swimming pool, the presentation of aid to the diagnosis of autism PEPR, presentation of books about autism. -Presentation – overview of cooperation. With the implementation of project tasks teachers participating in the project had the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills not available within the training courses organized in the home country. Participants of the project exchanged experiences with teachers from Greece on how to work with people with special educational needs. They knew the structure, organization and functioning of the Greek education system for people with autism. In addition, participants developed their personal competence through improving the skills of collaboration, cooperation, communication. They met teaching methods used in teaching people with autism in Greece. While cooperation with its partners, the teachers developed their language skills in terms of understanding and communicating in English. Through participation in the project they were involved in new activities for the benefit of school and students. Contact with institutions and teachers working in different systems of special education has allowed us to introduce innovative teaching, learn new skills, professional development of staff. Project resulted in concrete changes: •autistic students were included in regular classes at the swimming pool •bought teaching aids and tools for diagnosing autism-PEPR and several new books about autism treatments •participation in the training "Model of work with autistic students" •publication articles related closely to the implementation of the project – disseminating the knowledge about Erasmus+ program and work with autistic children •placing example of good practice on the website of the Board of Education in Olsztyn.
