„Building Bridges through Volunteering” is an EVS project for 6 volunteers from Tunisia, Ukraine, France and Spain, interested in the topics of civic activity, migration and combating exclusion. The main aim of the project is social inclusion of young people in danger of marginalisation, especially due to their migrant background, as well as improving social participation of young people, with emphasis on democratic life and European citizenship. In the era of so called ‘migration crisis’, gradually increasing radicalisation of youth and awakening extremisms, activities for the purpose of inclusion, fighting discrimination and promoting aware civic participation in the spirit of partnership, understanding and tolerance are gaining special importance.Volunteers will work in Special School no 11 in Krakow and Integrational School in Waganowice. Both institutions focus on work with youth despite limitations and obstacles, such as disability. Parallel to theirs daily work in the schools and providing support for the teachers, volunteers will try to promote benefits resulting from integration and acculturation of young people with different cultural background. Additionally, volunteers will meet with local youth and school pupils with whom they will organise workshops on the topics of mobility, getting to know other cultures and active engagement in creation of civil society on the grassroots level. Another, equally important aim of the project is promotion of conscious and life-long learning and completing the gaps in formal education. Volunteers will have possibility to cooperate with local nongovernmental organisations, such us Regional Centre for Volunteering and a group for combating hate speech ‘Voices”, with who they will promote integrational education, equity, non-discrimination an development of civil competences among young people of Krakow. As a result of the project volunteers will develop a set of competences related to active participation in civil society, combatting discrimination and taking responsibility for their actions. Additionally, they will encourage local youth to undertake their own initiatives, use the opportunities connected with mobility projects and actions dedicated to tolerant and multicultural society. In a long-term perspective project will contribute to building more open society, fighting marginalisation of youth with migrant background or affected by disability and to increasing the inclusion of youth in civil life.
