Budapest Mobility Week Workshop
Start date: Aug 1, 2009,

The objective of the project was to go over the common and alternative forms of city-scale public and individual means of transport and urban land use along with their ability to remodel the cityscape in negative as well as positive ways. They wanted to show directly and clearly, that the direction of these future changes strongly depend on our present attitudes. In the first day, the 34 participants (from 6 countries) expanded their knowledge about Budapest, the problems of the city concerning the individual car use and the currently possible alternative forms of transportation. After the presentation they shared their own experiences in the same field concerning their own home towns. The proposals to solve these problems were worked out by focusing the problems of an inner area of Budapest in an 8 day workshop in small, mixed-nationality groups. To help the work, participants spent one and a half day taking part on short cycling and watercraft tours in the city and in Szentendre to view the problems in practice. At the 7th day they had to exhibit their works in printed or projected format. As a closing event, they took part in the Budapest Critical Mass bicycle procession on the International Car Free Day (22 Sep). On the last day they evaluated the workshop together with the group leaders and the organizers. The working language of the program was English.
