Bringing new approaches to vocational education and education period of autistic children in Turkey and European Countries

Autism is a disorder that is seen from birth or very early period of childhood that affects essential human behaviours such as social interaction, the ability to express ideas and feelings, to communicate, to imagine and to establish relationship with others. It generally has life-long effects on how children learn to be social beings, to take care of themselves and to participate in the community. There are approximately 280.000 autistic young people who live in Turkey. The target groups of this project are teachers and students of Early Chilhood Education branches of vocational education and the teachers working in Special Education Centers and the parents of these students. In this project, first of all the successful methods and new approaches being used in Turkey and EU countries will be researched training needs of the students and the teachers will be identified, best practices will be collected. Discussion with experts, exchange of experience and information particularly by using new information and communication technologies will complete this preparative phase. At the end of these activities the the methodology which will be used in the modules and the module supporter CDs will be chosen.According to the decided methodology, we will prepare the leaflets about the methods used at training and education of autistic children that the teachers, students and trainee teachers will test them. The brochures, leaflets and supporting CDs will be evaluated by pilot implementation. The products of this project are expected to be used by anyone who works with autistic children, including teachers, educational assistants, foster parents, support staff, managers, counsellors and parents. The gained data and products will be implemented by the partner countries and disseminated interactively in each country. Meetings will be held in partner countries where the work done will be evaluated and next work steps will be discussed.
