The youth section at Stelmar Sports Federation (SSF) wanted to implement a multicultural sports event hosted in Malta. The youth at SSF are all very active and like practicing different kinds of sport. For this reason they wanted to implement a project whereby they will have the possibility to meet youth from different countries who also have sports as a passion and/or to promote sport as a healthy behaviour to youth that do not often practice sport. For this reason SSF uploaded a project synopsis on the SALTO website and 9 partner organisations spanning across the EU and all deriving from different EU member states were selected as the official partners of this project.
The project centers around one of the main priorities of Erasmus +: Promoting Healthy Behaviours, in particular through the promotion of the practice of outdoor activities and grassroots sports, as means to promote healthy lifestyles as well as to foster social inclusion and the active participation of young people in society. Sport will therefore play a key role in the project to highlight the importance of healthy behaviour and sport as a tool for social exclusion. The youth will realise that via sport they can make a difference by helping socially excluded people feel more included in the community via sport.
This project addresses another important aspect that of multiculturalism since we will have 60 youth participating coming from Malta, Lithuania, Palestine, Turkey, Italy, Croatia, Spain, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Estonia and Ireland. All the participating youth will have the possibility to learn about different cultures and traditions and appreciate a sense of multiculturalism and increase in tolerance towards other cultures and traditions.
All activities implemented in the project being proposed will be carried out through non-formal and informal means and this will be very easy to do since most of the events revolve round sport activities.
The main result of this project is to bring together youth coming from different countries and as a result of this project they will increase in knowledge on how important it is for people to practice sport to lead healthier lifestyles and how we as youth can lead awareness campaigns and/or assist socially excluded people to feel more included in society via sport. This project will have a very strong impact on us the youth because we will be empowered to implement activities in our communities.
The long-term benefit of this project is that during this 6 day exchange in Malta all the 60 youth will come together and plan more projects that centre around the theme of Sport.
