BRIdging the Digital Gap for Elders
Start date: Nov 1, 2009,

Partners propose the project because in some of participating countries (Austria, Poland, Slovenia, UK) significant fraction of the elder generations is not using IC technologies. Main reason for this is that this target group did not get any formal education in this field, and does not or did not use ICT on its working place. The aim of project is to train this target group to start using ICT and integrate themselves into emerging information society. Some EU countries (Sweden, Finland) were very successful in realization of this aim and we will use their experience to develop group training programmes, educational materials and tools, train the trainers, and realize pilot courses for target group. We will improve and innovate existing methods, so that it can be efficiently used in different cultural and socio-economic environments. The main outputs of project will be educational materials in English, German, Polish and Slovenian language and simulation of different ICT devices usage in everyday life. 25 trainers will be trained to educate members of target groups and 100 members of target groups will be trained in pilot courses in Austria, Poland, Slovenia and Scotland. The output will be produced using results from user analysis and requirement specifications developed at the start of the project. The main pedagogical strategies will be: to eliminate the fear of new technologies, working in small groups in a relaxed atmosphere, using storytelling as a learning method. During 2nd year of project life significant efforts will be made to disseminate result. We will try to organize ICT learning network for elderly adapting the Swedish model of SeniorNet which from 1986 had over one million elder people participating in ICT training in one of 200 learning centres. Using this strategy we will provide growing activities after project life and significantly support the integration of elder people in modern society increasing theirs digital competence and self-confidence.
