Break the Mould
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Break the Mould is the continuation of a tri-national youth exchange project involving groups from Scotland, Germany and Italy with the remit of bringing young people with and without disabilities together in a residential setting for a period of 10-days.Break the Mould is about breaking barriers, kicking habits and doing things in a different way that challenge young people to become more mature and responsible individuals. The core objectives of the project are to break down personal and social barriers to participation in local and European society, develop self confidence and life skills such as language, communication and leadership, and to prevent personal isolation of participants that can occur through disability, bullying and even geography. The exchange is based in a modern accessible facility named the Conforti Institute located in the town of Coatbridge just outside the city of Glasgow in Central Scotland and takes place in the month of August 2016.34 young people accompanied by 15 staff will participate in the excursion. Activities and the implementation method vary in scope. Group projects such as getting to know you games and independent living workshops will be facilitated by leaders to encourage interaction, boost confidence and promote team building; visiting sites like the banks of Loch Ness, exploring the old town in the city of Edinburgh and touring a whisky distillery will take an informal approach to exploring Scotland's rich history and culture; participants will be physically challenged by climbing up waterfalls and jumping into massive plunge pools whilst traversing a gorge, adding a splash of fun to a truly amazing project.
