BORDERLINES
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Borderlines is a project designed to respond to the current problems of Europe and its internal conflicts. In fact, we decided to involve partners from geographically strategic countries such as Lithuania, Ukraine and Romania. What these three countries have in common? From their geographical boundaries run stories of refugees and civil war, stories that make our European continent an unsafe place and devoid of humanity. On the Baltic border is played to cause the reaction of Russia, on the borders of Romania walls are erected overnight to reject people seeking peace while Ukraine's borders become more and more uncertain and dangerous. Of course the most overt crisis is Ukrainian but with our project we intend to overcome all geographical barriers, social and cultural factors that restrict participation and potential of young people. What better effort if not to invite three young voluntters who each live this situation in their country to share volunteer experience as an opportunity for exchange and discussion on Europe that they are helping to build every day? From this Borderlines project was born, an idea which we imagine will serve to raise the awareness of young Europeans who would like a certain Europe, that Europe founded on the values of democracy and respect for civil rights. The project aims to promote contact and intercultural knowledge, offer a comparison and growth space for young people from different countries and promote the development of a European awareness in the territory, integration and social inclusion for the local community. The cultural center Rina Durante in Melendugno and the residential communities for unaccompanied minors in Pisignano will be supported by the involvement of three volunteers from Lithuania, Ukraine and Romania. With them we intend to promote intercultural dialogue process, broaden the offer of youth engagement activities and the local community, to implement the activities already under way with innovative and informal tools.Activities will take place from 28th of November 2016 to 25th of November 2017.The volunteers will work 6 days a week, 30 hours a week for up to 5 hours a day, will have 2 days off per month for the duration of the project. The weekly schedule may be delayed in accordance with the staff.
