Booster sa formation professionnelle avec la mobilité européenne.
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school is a state-run vocational school. Students can choose to major in catering, secretarial, administrative, reception, commerce or transportation. The school is located in the North of France which is a rich cultural and historical area and also a popular destination for tourists from nearby countries. Furthermore, It is a major strategic road in Europe where there are many transportation and logistics companies. In order to comply with the expectations of this international clientele (mainly British) and the needs of European partners working in the area, the demand for skilled labor has been rising over the years. Therefore, graduate students with both strong level of English and professional skills are more easily hired. The grants given by the European program Erasmus + would give our students (especially those form disadvantaged social background) a valuable opportunity to do a four-week training period in the Republic of Ireland.By including the abroad-training program with our curriculum, we wish to provide students with broader scope of experience that can enhance both their language and professional skills. It will help meeting the requirements of the local labor market for those wishing to join the labor force or give further knowledge for those wishing to carry on with their studies. Our project involves 10 students who are in their last year of training and are specializing in catering. Of the 10 students, six of them are currently training as chefs and the rest are training as waiters. All of them were selected last June for the program. In order to qualify for the program, students have to take a complimentary English course for one and a half year before their training begins in March 2017.Another group of 10 students among those enrolled in other courses will be selected at the beginning of next school year and will benefit from this program too. These students will get a complimentary English course before their placement in June 2017.The project should be renewed again in 2018 with similar qualification and conditions.Ireland is chosen for this application because it is not only easier to deal with euros but it is also a safe place that offers a vibrant culture and job market. To ensure the students with a rewarding work experience, workplaces will be different from those in our area and the learning progress should be adapted to their needs. Another objective is to support students towards more autonomy and initiatives, especially for those who decide to enter the workforce quickly. In order to get the students more involved in the process, the teachers wish to associate them with certain procedures, particularly as regards logistics, cultural research and activities to do on site.Meanwhile, the teachers will deal with administration issues (training agreements, assessments sheets). Once in Ireland, they will make sure that the students are safe and that workplaces match both the school requirements (schedule and working conditions) and the student profiles.Indeed, to ensure the students with a rewarding work experience, workplaces will be different from those in our area. In addidtion, the learning progress should be adapted to their needs. After 4 experiences, this new application will be new grounds of educational thoughts so as to relate vocational education to language teaching. If shortly the students are expected to succeed in examinations, the new involved team is aimed at making the ERASMUS + program durable and the school more attractive by broadening the students’ horizons.
