FINISHED
The Youth League „djo – Deutsche Jugend in Europa“ implemented a series of activities to raise awareness for the situation of young refugees in Germany between May and October 2015. For decades members of „djo-Deutsche Jugend in Europa“ who come from various immigrant groups to organize themselves and work on issues around empowerment and participation. In this project young people with and without a personal experience of immigration and asylum-seeking were encouraged to participate in seminars, workhops and research activities to explore current discourses, reports in the media, controversal political discussions and to exchange personal experiences. The activities enabled young people to analyse different positions, discuss the complexity of migration movements, immigration policies and to phrase own positions, expectations and suggestions for the dialogue with political stakeholders. They were also empowered to develop and facilitate projects with refugee youth in their local communities. At the end of the project young people and political stakeholders were invited to a dialogue-conference and discussed current issues. The project fostered many new contacts to stake-holders, to the youth delegation of the european structured dialogue, to diverse local networks and led to new activities on national and international level within the youth league.
