Better Together: Volunteering as a Tool for Social Inclusion

"Better Together: Volunteering as a Tool for Social Inclusion" is a multi-activity project organised by ijgd. The main aim of the project is to train youth leaders to go deeper in European Citizenship education with focus on inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities and particularly migrants and refugees who are facing great social, economical and cultural obstacles. Firt of the activities, the training course will be organised in Altenkirchen in Germany between June 8-16, 2016 with follow-up activities after it. Second activity, youth exchange, will be orgabnized from July 30th till August 14th in Oberschleissheim, near Munich. Finally, the third event will take place in Berlin in November, 14-22nd and it will be training for multipliers. The working language will be English.The main objective is that by the end of the project participants will have experience to work with young people who are engaging in international voluntary service and promoting velues such is equality, solidarity, respect of human rights and social inclusion. Youth workers will get competences and practical experience in order to coordinate youth projects throughout Europe and promote social inclusion, active participation and European Citizenship education and act effectively as multipliers of newly acquired competences. Youth leaders will increase participation in public life and integration into society of young people with fewer opportunities by promoting the non-formal education and building the capacity and quality work in youth organisations. The specific objectives of the project are: 1. To increase participants’ awareness of social rights, exclusion issues and social inclusion in the framework of youth living in disadvantaged contexts. 2. To understand the role of young people in their local realities in the context of the social rights and inclusion. 4. To gain leadership and organizational skills needed to coordinateinternational youth groups;5. To learn how to assess competences with young people;6. To become familiar with recognition tools, methods and approaches.7. To develop understanding of cultural differences, increase intercultural understanding.8. To form a group of multipliers able to transfer knowledge gained during the project.Project will include two training courses and youth exchange, together with dissemination and follow-up activities. During the training courses and youth exchange there will be names and ice-breaking games, team building activities, presentations of best practices in social and cultural inclusion, research work on youth with fewer opportunities and migrant's needs, European Citizenship education for inclusion, forum theater for social and cultural inclusion, meetings with local youth on in Altenkirchen and work with unaccompanied youth in Munich area, discussions about their needs, brainstorms and work on new methods for social and cultural inclusion, creation of new activities for inclusion and youth projects for Erasmus+ Programme, creation of the dissemination plan to share project results in youth organisations and partners' countries, plans for follow-up activities, work on YouthPasses, evaluation of the training course and attractive wishes to participants. There will be also energizers, reflections in peers and groups, intercultural evenings, video sharing about project activities. The working methods of the project will be based on the non-formal education practices in Europe, learning by doing activities and educational and artistic development workshops. Few innovative methods from participants involved in this project will be also used. The impact of this project on participants will be visible in the competences they earn and develop during the project. Participants will train skills in order to use them in daily work and their international projects. They will promote knowledge and results of this project in youth work, media, daily life and effectively act as multipliers of newly acquired competences in youth organisations and local communities. As a result, this project will improve practical experience of youth workers, ensuring the use of the European values, social inclusion methods and promoting them in daily life and youth work, bring new inputs and perspectives for project planning and implementation. They will gain an attitude to cooperate with peers and articulate the interests of the organisation at local, European and international levels. It will inspire the creation of basic network for learning and sharing ideas face-to-face and virtually by emails and in social media.
