Through digital media, new formats of open participation and engagement are emerging. To strengthen young people's active citizenship in the digital society and secure the effectiveness of participation by young people these new forms of digital participation should be embedded within administrative decision making processes. Youth organisations, youth councils and youth information actors can play a key role in decision making processes concerning young people. They can implement and distribute digital participation and open engagement tools and combine offline and online activities to increase the quality and quantity of (e)participation by young people.
Within a 4-day seminar approximately 30 European youth workers from 6 different countries with specific interest or background in the topic of e-participation shared good practices and experiences on e-participation, identifying the challenges and opportunities of implementing projects.
Aim of this project was to stimulate young people’s active participation in decision making processes online through European cooperation and increasing the capacity of actors in the youth field. This project reached following goals:
- Promoting young people's active citizenship in the digital society;
- Bringing together knowledge and expertise within youth work on e-participation in order to raise the impact of youth participation in local communities, on national and European level;
- Promoting European cooperation and exchange of experience in order to raise the quality of youth work in the field of e-participation.
At the local and regional level, the expertise on implementing e-participation projects increased. On the national and European level, the #Bepart network that was formed throughout the seminar will be the starting point on the further development of e-participation.
