Belle opportunité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle d'un mois en Europe: Angleterre, Bulgarie et Pologne
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Lycée Jean Queinnec is situated in Malestroit, a small rural area in Brittany, between Ploërmel and Vannes. This professional college has around 180 students and a teaching staff of 20. The courses offered are aimed at the service industry and care work. Work experience abroad is offered to the students in the second year of the course CAPA Service en Milieu Rural (Services in the rural community) and to the students in the final year of the course Bac pro SAPAT, (Services for people and the territory). This opportunity is also offered to the Bac pro SAPAT students at Lycée La Touche. Starting this year, there is also the opportunity for the students from Lycée La Touche following the Bac pro Vente (sales), to participate as well. The students’ professional curriculum is directed mainly towards work in social care (working with the elderly or with children) or in the area of health (nursing, auxiliary nursing, auxiliary paediatric nursing) or in business jobs. The qualification that the students gain within our establishment enables them to continue their professional training or can be used as a springboard to go on to higher education. International co-operation is one of the specialities of Lycée Jean Queinnec. Having more than ten years experience in this field, we are able to offer our young people the chance to share in an experience outside of their local area in the following destinations : Canada, Senegal, England, Bulgaria and Poland. The choice of Cornwall is linked with many factors : Cornwall in England is a region similar to our own (a rural area, not overly developed, similar density of population). Jenny, a British citizen living in France, works at times with the teacher of English at the college. Due to Jenny’s knowledge of the area, contact with the work placement managers has been made and a good working relationship has been established. Because of this we have been able to maintain strong links with our placements there. The time spent in England consists of 4 weeks in Penzance. During these 4 weeks the students undertake work experience in structures for the elderly (a retirement home, day centres), in nurseries and primary schools, in an establishment catering for children with special needs ...... For the students following the course in sales, 3 work experience places are on offer : a bakery, a charity shop and at a food outlet moving between several markets. At the weekends and during their spare time, the students discover the culture, the local cuisine and specialities of the region, and some aspects of English heritage. We complete the visit with a long weekend (4 days) in London. This in-service training will run in October 2014 in conjunction with 2 other destinations in Europe : Bulgaria and Poland. We are offering work experience in Bulgaria for the 3rd consecutive year. It is thanks to our partnership with l’Institut de Formation des Aides Soignants de Malestroit (The Malestroit Institute for Training Auxiliary Nurses) that we have organised work experience in Bulgaria. A preparatory visit was made in 2012 to allow us to ascertain the suitability of the in-service training on offer. The trip consists of a block of 4 weeks in Varna. The different structures offering places are : a nursery school, an establishment specialised for people with special needs, a school for the blind ..... During the first week and at the weekends there are cultural visits to find out about local folklore and culinary specialities. In 2013 a new destination was offered : Poland. This project was proposed by the bursar at Lycée La Touche who had already organised work experience there in the care sector. A preliminary visit made in May 2013 resulted in 7 places being offered in structures around Bielsko Biala such as : a nursery school, a retirement home, a centre for people with special needs. Whatever the destination, the students pass their work experience in structures which allow them to undertake work and professional activities which conform to the requirements of the educational framework. Each year we make some improvements in the accommodation, cultural visits, finding new structures .... our goal being to make this in-service training experience as attractive as possible and so to encourage the participation of more students year on year. For broadening the students’ knowledge of Europe and to maintain the links made by the educational team, we wish to continue the experience of offering work placements abroad.
