PROJECT
FINISHED
Bodø videregående skole (Bodø upper secondary school) is the applicant organization. The application is based on the cooperation we have had with Knobelsdorff Schule in Berlin since 2011, where we have exchanged students from the building professional lines plumbing, carpentry, concrete, bricklayer and formwork. Bodø videregående skole is planning to send two flows with 6 students each time for the next two years, each flow with a stay of 4 weeks.
A stay of such duration will give the participants time to become familiar with the task on the buildingsites and their German classmates. There will also be time to get to know the historic Berlin, especially after the First World War, and that the students can gain experience and discover the modern German capital at their own leisure.
The hosting organization, Knobelsdorff Schule, select and organize the work and buildingsites for our participants. We have together with Knobesldorff Schule created guidelines for what is the desired content in the participant`s tasks, such as restoration work, building of passive houses, use of new ecological building materials, formwork and bricklaying, standard plumbing as well as a short course in the installation of heating based on gas.
The main objectives of the project are
1. Improved English language skills, both in technical and everyday conversation
2. Knowledge and skills in the construction field, both through new construction and rehabilitation
3. Acquire new knowledge in areas such as saving energy/passive houses and use of ecological building materials.
4. Increase awareness of the challenge of a multicultural and international labor marked.
5. Strengthen participant`s abilities to cope and act adequately in a new and unfamiliar setting.
6. Give the students an insight into Berlin as capital and the German history over the last 100 years.
Through good preparation, close cooperation with Knobesldorff Schule and a good follow up by the accompanying person, we expect measurable results in all the above 6 areas, altthough there will be variations between the participants.
The work scedule, criteria for participation and selection of participants is based on good experiences from previous projects. They are so clearly detailed that our school is not dependent of today’s project manager to implement both the selection and preparation, as well as the stay in Berlin
There is great emphasis on close cooperation with the participant`s parents, since most of them are under 18 yeares. That’s why we apply for founding for an accompanying person, that can support and help the paticipants along the way, as well as follow up on buildingsites, keep in touch with Knobelsdorff Schule and guide the participants on the cultural and historical activities.
The fact that the building department at Bodø videregående skole has an internationalization project where all the students from the first and second level are familiar with the criteria for the perticipation, enables the students that early state they want to join the project, boosts their academic performance and strives to be reliable and present.
In the long term, the school`s internationalization projects will increase knowledge to the local construction companies, through increased intercultural understanding, language skills and knowledge and understanding of other building materials and building traditions. In an ever more internationalized workforce, this knowledge, experience and abilities are becoming increasingly important.
