The Jean Monnet Module ‘Becoming Europeans: the Social Dimension of European Integration’ aims to encourage and promote in depth knowledge of the social elements linked to the shaping of a European society from a sociological perspective. In the territorial context of the University of Salerno, the Module envisages the analysis, promotion and diffusion of issues linked to the building of Europe as a common social space. The general topic of the Module is the Europeanisation in a social context, analysing the sociological aspects of the European integration process and the influence the EU exerts on human rights, social citizenship, equal rights, gender issues and immigration. With the expertise of the Centre for European Studies of the University of Salerno and by means of innovative blended teaching methodology (e-learning), the target Module is addressed to: university students, secondary students, local civil society activists, policy makers and institutional social workers. Training will be diversified according to target groups.The aims of the Module consist in: 1) delivering a modular training course denominated ‘Sociological Studies on European Integration’ for students of the University of Salerno; 2) devising a series of JM Lectures on human rights, social citizenship, equal rights, gender issues and immigration; target groups comprise university students, secondary students, civil society activists, policy makers and institutional social workers; 3) promoting a series of Roundtables on the topic of ‘European citizenship’ targeting students from local secondary schools.The impact of the Module is the diffusion of greater awareness and knowledge on the critical issues pertinent to the EU, the integration of University of Salerno curricula for students and other targets of reference, the raising of sensitivity on the issues of European citizenship and the creation of networking opportunities.
