"Be My Guest" is a project that aims at the development of a basic online course ofRussian language. Taking into account the importance of Russian as a language ofglobal communication and the increased number of people speaking Russian as anative or second language in enlarged Europe, the project seeks to explore theadvantages that learning this language can provide to Europeans with the view toenhancing and improving communication and intercultural interaction andunderstanding.The online course will be addressed, above all, to people occupied and seekingemployment in the tourism and hospitality sector giving them opportunity to have basiclanguage skills in Russian. This course will be also useful for individuals providing homeaccommodation and other tourist services, as it will help them to facilitate theircommunication with Russian speaking people from European countries where Russianlanguage is widely spoken as a second language, and from Russian speaking countries.The learning content of the course takes into consideration the recognised standards oflanguage competences (A2 of Common European Framework for Languages).The online course will be accessible through the project website and supported byonline tutoring via Internet facilities, such as chat, online conference, voice call. Thepartners will test the online course with target users in the partner countries in order toensure suitability, relevance, and effectiveness of the product.The project consortium will also develop an intercultural module with the view to puttinglanguage learning into the socio-cultural context, and assisting learners in exploringculturally conditioned communication situations, rules of politeness, and habits.The project developments and achievements will be disseminated via informationmaterials at various national and international events in and beyond the countries of thepartners. At the end of the project the consortium will hold the "Be My Guest"conference to publicize the project results and to transfer the successful outcomes todecision-makers, wider audience, training organisations catering for language teachingin the tourism and hospitality sector.This project brings together expertise from 5 organisations from Bulgaria, Italy, Maltaand Spain, countries traditionally considered popular tourist destinations for Russianspeaking tourists which make the partners believe in a wide applicability of the projectresults.
