Search for European Projects

Be Mobile
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since - in contrast to schools with a focus on tourism - places for compulsory work placements for fashion students are neither found abroad nor do the customers in their boutiques come from abroad, practically all fashion students do their work placements with businesses near their homes. Therefore all placement reports and certificates are written in German and also all communication with external project owners takes place in German. Aims of the project "Be Mobile" are - on the one hand - an increase in the number of voluntary work placements by students, done in addition to the compulsory ones and in a non-German-speaking environment. On the other hand, a pool of international, potential project owners for class projects and diploma projects should be established. Modern language skills, especially English skills should be "mobilised" - with students as much as with teaching staff and management. And also the outcomes of compulsory work placements should be evaluated more often and also in a cross-curricular approach. The three participants of the project are all over 18 years. In August 2016 they are to work in retail businesses within the fashion industria (e.g. bridal wear). At that time two of them will already be working on their diploma thesis for their final exams in spring 2017 and might make good use of the contact to a brideswear shop for their thesis. In the months leading up to their work placements, they will be questioned and tested in order to find out what their interests and their language skills are. Based on this they will be assigned to a suitable placement. During the two weeks they work in London, they will be staying with a host family. They will also be documenting and commenting on these two weeks using the functions of their smartphones. After their return they will be expected to act as ambassadors for voluntary work placements abroad (during the summer holidays) and to promote the search for international project owners for diploma projects. Among the results hoped for and aimed at there are: three successful work placements and a growing number of students and teachers interested in work placements abroad as well as international partnerships and the internationalisation of HLM/FM Wiener Neustadt.
