Armenia is a country located at the crossroad of the East and the West. The country does not have open boundaries with the two of four neighboring countries, which is a real barrier for mobility, intercultural communication, the opening up of career and learning perspectives of the young people of Armenia. Therefore, the need of intercultural dialogue and learning is highly demanded among young people, which is proved based on the research conducted by Youth Initiative Centre in the scope of Gyumri Youth Policy Development comprehensive programme. Therefore, the EVS project is aimed at addressing the following issues:
- Fostering soft skills and entrepreneurial approaches among young people
- Creating platforms for intercultural communication through peer-to-peer learning and non-formal educational activities
The EVS project is aiming to improve prospects for youth employability and supporting the personal and professional development of young people through peer-to-peer education and non-formal leaning.
The objectives are:
- Supporting professional development and skills of young people through increasing youth competitiveness in the job market
- Integrating the volunteer and young people into intercultural learning and dialogue through non-formal educational activities
- Providing space and support to the volunteer for bringing up ideas and implementing own project ideas
The activities of the EVS project consist of 3 parts:
- the main activities - which include planning, preparing and running “Soft Skills” workshops for the members, beneficiaries of YIC and for the young people aged 16-25 from Gyumri and Shirak region on CV designing, Motivation Letter Writing, Electronic Literacy, Job Interviews and Social Networks. According to the need assessment through meetings, research, online and offline questionnaires a huge need is expressed by young people who possess a great interest to develop their personal and professional skills and increase youth competitiveness in the labour market. Thus, we have decided to continue providing opportunities and learning possibilities to the young people. The “Soft Skills” workshops aim to bring 20 young people to learn the techniques of CV designing, Motivation Letter Writing, Electronic Literacy, Job Interviews and Social Networks.
- the secondary activities in the office which include involvement, assistance in, preparation and organization of on-going project such as “Entrepreneurship Club”. “Entrepreneurship Club” is designed for local youth to learn about business models and management through transforming innovative ideas into startup businesses, to promote entrepreneurship among young people and support their participation in the development of entrepreneurial projects.
- Own initiatives of the volunteer – after getting acquainted with the local community and learning their needs the volunteer is welcome to propose and implement his/her own initiatives within the scope of the main directions of the HO which include youth policy and community development, employability and entrepreneurship, art and culture. The volunteer receives all necessary support and guidance from the HO for the realization of his/her initiatives.
The result of this activity is that the volunteer lives, works and flourishes in a new country and culture. He/She learns the Armenian language, gains competences for personal growth, develops her/his organizational and job-related skills, becomes more autonomous and resilient.
The target groups of the activities run by the volunteer - youth of the northern regions of Armenia learn much more about volunteering, its benefits, opportunities for becoming more competitive in labor market, they get acquainted with the activities, offered opportunities of the Erasmus+.
