The project " Be practitioner, not theoretician- improving the professional skills in the branch of environmental engineering and protection as the guarantee of better employment opportunities in EU“ will be carried out by the Centre for Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning No. 2 in Gdańsk and in cooperation with partners from Germany: Deula Nienburg, Deula Hildesheim and ILLUT Berlin -Bonn. In the internship will attend five 18-person groups of pupils from classes of technical profiles: technician analyst, technician of environmental protection, technician of environmental engineering and drainage, technician of food technology. The aim of the project is to gain by students the practical skills, improve of German knowledge, especially communication skills, gain openness to the world, increase in the desire of knowledge, skillful use of innovative technological achievements and increase the chance of better employment. The internship should raise the vocational competences of participants, motivate them to work in the learned profession and realize them the importance of environmental issues in the global world. Taking the opportunities of the Erasmus+ program, students acquire practical and professional skills to create their future professional and social attitudes, increase the competitiveness of the occupation in the local labour market and skills that minimize the social exclusion. Depending on the field of participants’ learning profiles the internship’s activities and program will be adapted to their needs, taking into account the practical application of the issues in the area of engineering and environmental protection. Individual groups will deal with the following topics: 1. Group I: the internship for students of all profiles will be based on an analysis of the principles of the waste management and the possibility of obtaining energy from renewable sources in Germany as well as legal conditions on an independent farm. The result will be a video work related to the theme of the project and to environmental aspects in German and Polish economy. 2. Group II: students of the profiles- technician of environmental protection, technician of environmental engineering and drainage will do researches of the state of the environment (water, air, soil) in the region of Germany, will explore aspects of water, wastewater and solid waste management based on the standards of the European Union and the ability to generate energy from renewable sources. The researches and their results will be presented in a report. They will get familiar with the method of building the gabion retaining wall and after returning from the project they will build the wall in the school area. 3. Group III - students of the profiles- technician of environmental protection, technician of environmental engineering and drainage will do researches of soil and do the evaluation of agricultural suitability of the soil, they will also do researches of surface water. The students will summarize the results in a report, in which, after returning to the Polish they will present test the waters of the region Pomeranian Province. They will also will explore aspects of water, wastewater and solid waste management based on the standards of the European Union and the ability to generate energy from renewable sources. The students will become familiar with the digging works technologies and as a practical action they will build a fish pond. After returning they will create such in the school area. 4. Group IV and V are students that educate in the profiles: technician analyst and technician They will be introduced to the organization and working methods of the modern laboratory, will examine the ways of waste management with special emphasis on hazardous waste disposal. They will do microbiological and physico-chemical researches and analysis that will be presented in the report of environmental parameters in Poland and Germany. Participation in the project will also contribute to the personal development of students, motivate to further learning and influence the development of assertiveness and communication skills, increasing also in this way their activity and competitiveness in the labour market. It should be emphasized that the opportunity to go on an internship to the training center in Germany will increase the CKZiU No. 2 students' motivation to learn, especially foreign languages including German, because one of the conditions of going to the internship is to obtain good results in learning. For most students it is the only opportunity to go abroad ever. The entire project supervises and coordinates Mrs Barbara Mizerska – headteacher in the for Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning No. 2 in Gdańsk. The financial settlement will be also kept by the school. The beginning of the project is the beginning of the school year 2015/2016.
