The Ausbildungszentrum-Bau in Hamburg, the vocational training centre in the main construction trades focusses on educating young people for over 40 years. There are 150 trainees per year of training in our center.By the proportion of a total of 37 weeks work based training in 3 years apprenticeship we get to know the trainees very well. In Hamburg and hence in our training center, the proportion of trainees with an immigrant background is increasing. On construction sites working together of different cultures is everyday´s business. In addition to technical training, we want to support young people in obtaining these necessary skills. They will improve their personal skills during an internship abroad and also get to know new ways of working and learning environments. Our educational staff will get to know new methods of teaching and learning and a better understanding of cultural contexts will be another result. These experiences will improve our work on the ongoing development of our courses.A total of 44 trainees of the 2nd year of training and 22 people from the education staff will participate in our mobility projects. They will take part as a trainee in internships in training centers and vocational schools in the different countries. All of them will also get to know resident companies and construction sites. With this project we want to achieve that training in the construction sector is perceived more attractive to young people and thus also counteract the evolving shortage of skilled employers. Next to the opportunity to gain experience abroad the motivation of students will increase and thereby reduce the drop-out rates. We want to establish the Europass as an appropriate documentation for personal soft skills, which may tell you more about a person than his grades.
