Pre-school period is a critic period which influences an individual’s whole education life in a positive or negative way, and the lay of his/her personality is founded, and nearly 60% of his/her mental development is completed. The quality of education to be provided at which children’s emotional, cognitive, lingual, social, ethical and psycho-motor development phases are shaped rapidly is so significant that it might influence the quality of whole education system including vocational education, too. In many of European Union countries which are conscious about this, rate of schooling is extremely high in pre-school period. In fact, schooling rate at this level of education in some European countries has reached at 100%.( Journal of Nat.Ed.167 ). In our country, Ministry of Education has focused on this sensitive issue recently and brought in very significant studies to spread this pre-school education.
Some of the significant studies carried out in this area; Ministry of National Education put the Project “Empowering Pre-School Education” into practice in 2010 in order to provide 36-66-month babies to access completely to early childhood services and this is spread to 81 cities all over the country in 2013-2014 education year in order to fund our country’s cohesion studies to EU acquis. In our country, today, the number of pre-school institutions is 27.197, the number of classrooms is 49.372, the number of branches is 61.920, the number of students is 1.077.933. The rate of schooling for 5-year-olds has increased to 64,47%, and to 44.04% for 4-5 year-olds (48-72 months) (Data from Directorate of Strategic Development and TUİK). However, the target set is 100% as in Europe.
The schools which provide education necessary to achieve the aim set in Child Development and Education Field are our school Gölmarmara Multi Program High School, and project partners, Tatvan Technical and Vocational High Schools for Girls and Turgutlu Urganlı Multi Program High School. Since schools which perform activities to train qualified instructor and teacher for pre-school education institutions operate in small district centers where there are kindergartens and nurseries which have few and limited opportunities and are insufficient in means of technical background and equipment, they cannot train the students in accordance with the mission determined, and graduate them before they haven’t completed their professional development. It is aimed in our project to meet the need to enable our students who have graduated from our schools without having enough chance for practice to perform practice in modern and well-equipped kindergartens in Europe, to empower students’ professional development in addition to language skills and to be employed in their professional field by getting socialized and gaining self-confidence.
While our project is carried out, project management, education, promotion and evaluation methodology are going to be used. Project team to be formed through project management method shall coordinate the activities planned so as to achieve the specific aims and enable the sustainability by assessing the results, through education management, our participants are aimed to reach at target professional level, through promotion method, it shall be ensured that Ministry of European Union and National Agency, primarily our schools, shall be introduced to large mass and project results shall be evaluated through evaluation method, which helps the project to be conducted successfully.
Our project which shall include 16 students from our school, from 11th and 12th graders in Child Development and Education Department, and 12 students from each partner schools participating in the project shall be conducted as 4 flows simultaneously in groups of 10, for 14 days in specific kindergartens such as in Cuxhaven, Germany, in Barcelos, Portugal, in Stockholm, Sweden and in Bialystok, Poland. 5 branch teachers shall accompany the participants.
Expected results of the project are as follows:
*to enable our students in Child Development and Education to improve themselves professionally by observing innovative practices, alternative methods and techniques in modern and well-equipped pre-school education institutions in Europe,
* to enhance quality and capacity of education in our schools
* to lay the ground for sustainable partnership with schools accepting students and to share knowledge and experience
* to improve our students’ self-confidence and entrepreneurship spirit and to be socialized
* to gain life experience through intracultural interaction and improve language skills
Long-term gains and influence expected from the project are that our participants shall be employed nationally and internationally as a result of reaching professional expertise level, quality of education in our schools shall be enhanced and pre-school education shall become widespread in our regions.
